Designed as a collection of small house residences, this memory support assisted living and sub-acute rehabilitation development provided residents with a sense of community. Each 16 resident household had its own kitchen, dining and living rooms and was connected to a central larger community space where community gatherings and PT/OT could take place.

LAKEVIEW ASSISTED LIVING

Boulder City, NV

Overlooking Lake Mead, this assisted living and memory support assisted living was designed around a closed Marie Callender's restaurant. The restaurant building served as kitchen, dining room, living and activity room and offices. The building shape provided for a well-used private and secured courtyard.

ARBOR SPRINGS

West Des Moines, IA

​

This memory support assisted living and skilled nursing residence provided small house design with resident rooms surrounding a central social space. Household kitchens were provided and secured courtyards allowed residents to enjoy the outdoors either through a covered patio or on the landscaped green areas. The design of the building was versatile in order for the owner to convert from assisted living to skilled nursing or vice-versa. 

TRINITY WOODS

As part of an existing life plan campus repositioning, Trinity Woods replaced an outdate assisted living structure with a new 3-story building that included offices, resident amenities, new dining options and more spacious apartments as well as full access to wellness and cultural centers.

FOREST SIDE/METHODIST HOME OF DC

A former historic home for women was converted into a four-household memory support assisted living residence near Rock Creek Park. The original building was a single story and converted to two stories by adding a second floor but maintaining the architectural feel of the original.

LEGACY GARDENS

Iowa City, IA

​

This memory support assisted living was located on a senior living campus but the client desired a separate identity for the building as well as a small house, person-oriented approach to design and care. The resultant two household design provided residents with activities, dining and living rooms in the center of each household where they could choose to participate when ready to do so. 

HOUSE OF HOPE

Omaha, NE

​

Designed with small households. this 62-resident assisted living for those with dementia included an adult day care, a large gathering space for community meetings, a private family dining room, a library and a soda fountain for residents and visitors. Each household also had an "audio" room where the television or radio could be at a high volume without upsetting other residents.
